Relationship and sex therapy

Honest and open communication forms the cornerstone of any healthy relationship...

.. and a fulfilling sex life is a vital part of that relationship. It’s good for you (did you know sex can lower blood pressure, improve the health of your heart and reduce stress?) and, let’s face it, sex is a fun part of life. Developing the inner strength to trust yourself and express your thoughts and feelings can nurture healthy relationships and sexual intimacy.

Growing that sexual intimacy can take learning and courage, but for some, sex can be a source of anxiety and worry. There’s the expectation of what sex ‘should’ be like. Anxieties around trauma, sexual dysfunction, low confidence and self-esteem, other health issues, and the pressures of everyday life can lead to stress and confusion.

Sometimes the pressure gets too great and you and your partner cannot solve the problems on your own. Frustration, disappointment, misunderstanding and feeling inhibited and awkward when discussing sex can present real challenges.

Relationships and sex can go hand in hand and Jane offers therapy designed to support individuals and couples of any sexual orientation: heterosexual, gay/lesbian, bisexual, intersex and polyamory. Jane also provides sexual violence counselling under the ACC Sensitive Claims process and adult transitioning for those wishing to explore their gender.

Sex therapy can help couples (and individuals) resolve communication difficulties so they can work through and ‘reframe’ challenges in a positive way, develop intimacy and a ‘two-way’ connection, overcome the gridlock of blame, and move forward towards a healthy, fulfilling, confident and happy sex life. Jane can help you find ways to heighten sexual intimacy, desire and expression, reduce anxiety and stress, cope with feelings of depression and inadequacy, and improve relaxation.
